What are the 3 basic weave structure types of woven fabrics?
Whether denim or flannel, poplin or chintz, each type of woven fabric is made using one of three weave structures:

1. Plain weave: The threads of this woven fabric all run in a simple vertical weave pattern, similar to a simple checkerboard pattern. Chiffon and organza are popular plain weave types.
2. Twill weave: Also known as twill weave, the threads in twill weave run in a ribbed diagonal pattern. When weaving twill, the weft threads (horizontal threads) are woven over one or more warp threads (vertical threads on the loom) and then under one or more warp threads. A herringbone zigzag weave is a great example of this fabric.
3. Satin weave: Satin weave is characterized by four or more weft yarns passing through one warp yarn, or vice versa: four or more warp yarns passing through one weft yarn. This woven fabric has four or more weft yarns floating on one warp yarn and vice versa.
